The Certificate of Mortgage and Practice, also known as CeMAP, is a qualification that is recognised by UK regulators like the Financial Conduct Authority. This means that those taking the course and passing it successfully will be granted a licence that enables them to deliver mortgage advice to UK customers as a respected professional.
The abbreviation “CeMAP” following the name of a broker is viewed by clients and potential employers alike a sign of possessing a comprehensive understanding of practising mortgage advice. To make certain practising advisors have the most current knowledge, it is essential the CeMAP courses are revised regularly.
When do changes occur to CeMAP?
Any alterations to the basic syllabus for CeMAP will take effect in August, when a brand-new academic year begins. At present, if you are studying on a multi-module CeMAP course, you will be using the current syllabus for the academic year running from 2019 to 2020, however, this usage will conclude on August 5, 2021. Provided candidates complete their examinations prior to this closing date, they will not be impacted.
Changes to the CeMAP qualification for 2021
The London Institute of Banking and Finance (LIBF) manages CeMAP examinations and has introduced certain changes to the CeMAP’s dedicated syllabus, reflecting alterations to regulations in Unit 2 following Brexit.
The amendments mean that individuals who have not yet completed Unit 5 in CeMAP 2 by the August 5 cut-off date will need to complete not only Unit 5, but Unit 6 from the new syllabus for 2020-2021 to ensure that their knowledge is current.
This new change will apply to candidates even in circumstances where they have already completed Unit 6 under the previous 2019-2020 syllabus.
The forthcoming adjustments to the CeMAP syllabus will also mean that any examinations that are taken after August 5 will be for the 2020 to 2021 syllabus, even when a candidate has studied the 2019 to 2020 edition.
For this reason, all students undertaking CeMAP courses are advised to complete their studies and concluding examinations before a new academic year commences to avoid being impacted by necessary changes that are made to the syllabus to ensure CeMAP qualifications remain relevant.
