Prepare your mind before you study
Before you attend class or sit down at home to study, try to get in the right mindset. Allowing a few minutes to close your eyes and take a few deep breaths relaxes you and makes a huge difference to how well you absorb information.
Make sure you are not too hot or too cold. You do not want to be distracted by feeling physically uncomfortable when you are trying to learn.
Make crib notes as you go

Ask questions

On the other hand, if it has been a while since you studied for an exam take the time to try out a few techniques in advance. Try flash cards, mnemonics, story journeys or building mind palaces.
