New figures published have shown that CeMAP qualified mortgage advisors remain the first place many borrowers go to when looking for a home loan.

Mortgage advisors remain in the driving seat when it comes to offering advice on loans, accounting for 62% of all property financing between January and March of this year.

This is a marked increase from October to December of last year, which indicated that such consultants accounted for 60% mortgages.

More than half of those people looking to move – 57% – chose a mortgage advisor to get the best deal, whilst those new to the property market have especially sought guidance from mortgage advisors, with just over 70% of new borrowers opting for professional advice, the highest number since the April to June of last year.

The Director General of the Association of Mortgage Intermediaries, Chris Cummings, offered his perspective on the numbers by pointing out the general slowing of the market.

He said: “What we need is greater liquidity and new funding lines. We are already making this point to the new government on behalf of our members.”

Executive Chairman of the Intermediary Mortgage Lenders Association, Peter Williams, said:

“House purchasers and those looking for a remortgage value the service that the mortgage broker community provides and that is why they remain the first destination for many when looking for a mortgage.”

Even though the market has suffered recently, these figures prove that it’s an excellent time for those studying for a CeMAP qualification in mortgage advice.
