Figures from the British Banker’s Association have been revealed, showing that the number of mortgages approved for people to buy a home in December actually increased by more than 27 per cent compared to November, increasing to 22,051 mortgages.

Those taking their CeMAP exam or studying for the Competent Advisor Status (CAS) to qualify as a mortgage advisor will be pleased with this news, as will many people as this could be an indication according to some experts that the worst of the housing slump could be over.

Of course, figures from one month are not enough to base a decision on, but it is hoped that this could be the first sign of a spring in the property market.

The overall figures for December are still much lower than they were even just twelve months earlier, so we will all be waiting for the figures for the first month of the New Year with bated breath.
