46 and out for Leeds Building Society employee

Following a 46 year career at Leeds Building Society, worker Brian Munnoch has moved into retirement.

An article in the FT Advisor talks about how, having joined immediately after school at the young age of 16, Munnoch started work at Leeds Building Society working in the mortgages section back in 1964 in a role as a junior clerk.

From that first role working in mortgages, Brian moved through a variety of different administrative roles in a number of branches of the society.

Brian still lives in the Leeds area and remembers how, when he first started work in 1964, the average UK house price was just £3,360 – the housing market has certainly changed a lot in the last 46 years.

“Brian has been a great credit to the society and I would like to thank him, on behalf of the senior management team and the board of directors, for the outstanding contribution he has made.

“When you consider that the society was established in 1875, it is a fantastic achievement by Brian to have worked here for over a third of our proud and successful 135-year history.”

Nowadays, it is really unusual for someone to start a role at such a young age and to stay anywhere for more than 40 years – even when the roles change throughout their career. For those working with an independent mortgage advisor, they are more likely to find they can liase with the same mortgage advisor each time they move home.
