House Prices
The average price of a house in the UK went up during October, with the increase being the biggest one seen since the first month of this year.
These statistics are taken from the Halifax House Price Index, which shows that October brought a 0.6% rise in average prices. In financial terms, that amounted to £1,647 and took the average UK house price to £299,862. This figure sets a new record, while the month-on-month increase is the largest since January. Furthermore, the index also reveals an annual rise in the average price of a house.
During October, there was annual price growth of 1.9%. That is an improvement on the month before, which saw price growth of 1.3%. All in all, this latest House Price Index suggests that the UK housing market remains in good health.
Halifax head of mortgages is Amanda Bryden. She spoke to Mortgage Introducer about the figures, stating that demand had stayed strong despite uncertain economic conditions.
Bryden then added:
“There is no doubt that affordability remains a challenge for many. Average fixed mortgage rates are currently around 4% and likely to ease down further, but with property prices at record levels, moving home can feel like a stretch.”
She then continued by saying that cost of living rises were another factor affecting affordability, because they left people with less in the way of disposable income. Bryden concluded by arguing that affordability pressures will ease though.
This is the outcome that those who have done the CeMAP mortgage advisor course may be hoping for.
