A new piece of research has found that almost one quarter of people in the UK who own a home are thinking about making green upgrades to it within the next 12 months.
This figure is taken from the Greener Homes Attitude Tracker published by NatWest. The report covered the second quarter of 2025 – April to June – and it found that 25% of homeowners were looking at making green upgrades to their properties. This is the highest percentage to say this since NatWest first began to publish the report four years ago.
The findings also mark a significant improvement on those from the previous quarter. Back then, just one out of every five homeowners said that they planned to make green upgrades.
When it comes to buyers, the priorities are somewhat different though. Only 42% of the people who hope to buy a house within the next 10 years cited the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) as important to them. Issues like public transport links and the availability of green spaces in the local area ranked higher. During the first quarter of this year, an EPC certificate was a bigger priority than either of those things.
The report did bring good news in terms of green mortgages though. One out of every five people who took part in it stated that they would think about getting one. However, 13% told the survey they had no idea what green mortgages were.
Raising awareness of green mortgages is something that advisors with CeMAP training can do.
