How to reduce your exam nerves

Most people will admit to feeling a little nervous before taking an exam, which is a natural reaction. Very often, a person’s future career plans will depend on a positive outcome of the exam, which is why a student will become tense in the period leading up to it. Although it isn’t possible to remove the feeling of anxiety prior to taking an exam, it is possible to take action to help yourself stay calm.

Try to be positive throughout your study period, and believe that you will pass the exam. Rather than worry about failing, believe in your ability and consider how the pass mark will impact on your life.

Prepare well before the actual exam by creating a study plan in the weeks leading up to the date, get plenty of exercise and sleep, in addition to a healthy diet. Being refreshed on the day, with a healthy meal which will get you through the exam without hunger pangs, will help you to focus.

Put the importance of the test into perspective. For instance, if you are taking an exam for the CeMAP qualification, most educational facilities will let you take the exam again after a short period. Even if you fail on the day, you always have further opportunities to take it again.

Mortgage advisers are required to pass the CeMAP exam before they can practice. However, a reputable organisation will let you take the test again, after a period of study.
