Students who have set their sights on going to university when they leave school, may be distraught if they don’t achieve the grades they need to be accepted into the establishment of their choice. However, there are alternatives to university and it is still possible to gain the career of your choice if you take an different path.
Apprenticeships are a popular option for many students, as they offer a chance to learn whilst working in an environment of your choice. This may entail taking some of your exams again and further study, but you will also gain the experience needed to apply for a permanent role in your chosen field.
If you have a particular career in mind, you may want to consider studying for a professional qualification. For instance, if you fancy a career as a mortgage adviser, you will have to gain the CeMAP qualification before you are allowed to offer advice. Many qualifications like this can be studied and taken in your own time, so you could combine this with a part time job, so you are also earning an income.
If you have gained the qualifications you desire but don’t want to go to university on a full time basis, you may want to consider working while studying for a degree part time. Although this option will take longer, you will be working and gaining relevant experience.
University is just one of many options and although a degree is necessary for some careers, you can also secure the career of your choice with a professional qualification or an apprenticeship.
