A large percentage of the public would be open to the idea of using a professional mortgage advisor when looking for a protection product, according to the latest data to be released.
This data was published by insurance provider The Exeter. It asked people how they would go about researching and finding the right product for them. In response, 42% of those who took part stated that they would talk to an advisor, either face-to-face or over the telephone. That puts advisors within the top three methods of research.
The only research methods that ranked above them were comparison websites and online study of individual providers. The first of those methods was cited by 59% of respondents, while the second was named by 45%.
One finding of the research that some may consider surprising is the majority of respondents said they were confident that they understood the protection market. 74% stated they felt either ‘somewhat’ or ‘very’ confident in their understanding.
However, well over half (64%) told the research that they still preferred to get help from an advisor. Only 36% said they would be happy to choose a product without consulting an advisor. Furthermore, 82% of those who had used an advisor in the past said that they had had a ‘good’ or ‘excellent’ experience.
Jamie Page from The Exeter said the findings showed the continued importance of professional advice.
Protection can provide a significant income stream for those advisors with CeMAP training as protection needs are typically reviewed alongside mortgage requirements.
