Top Tips For Selecting A CeMAP Training Course

June 27, 2008 by Brendan

The route to becoming a qualified mortgage advisor can be long and arduous, so here are our top tips to selecting a CeMAP training company and helping you to gain that all-important pass in the CeMAP qualification:

•    Check the course materials are up-to-date: The ifs (Institute of Financial Services) updates the CeMAP syllabus twice a year, so the material must be fully up to date
•    Check updates are given: If you are looking at a home-study course, be sure that you will receive an update sheet if your study takes you over one of the CeMAP syllabus changes
•    Past Papers / Revision Notes: Check that the CeMAP course provides past examination papers or questions and/or revision notes.  Also check that these are also up to date, as otherwise, the answers to past exam papers may now be incorrect
•    Exam Techniques: There is a knack to understanding, interpreting and answering the CeMAP questions, so check that the training company provides guidance on this as well as just covering the course content
•    Course Content: Be sure that you are signing up to a full CeMAP instructional course, and not just a revision course
•    Support: Check what tutor support the company provides, especially with home study courses.  In a tutor group, there should be at the most, 12 students to one tutor and on a home study course, there should be some tutor support as materials alone, in our opinion, is insufficient
•    Cost: Many companies charge outrageous figures for their courses, so check what is on offer and how it differs from other companies.  Also, beware of unscrupulous companies that offer very low cost CeMAP courses in order to lure you into paying £5,000 or more for a mortgage advisor franchise or mortgage advisor position in their company.

We hope that these tips will help you in your search for a CeMAP training course.  If you are looking for a CeMAP course in London, Liverpool, Leeds, Birmingham, Manchester or more, a national training provider is usually a good choice.  For CeMAP courses in Scotland, check the course is tailored specifically for Scottish Law.
