The CeMAP course (Certificate of Mortgage Advice and Practice) that is needed to become a mortgage advisor is changing. This blog will cover all of the main points that you need to know.
The Key Syllabus Changes
The existing CeMAP training course consists of three modules. They are UK Financial Regulation (CeMAP 1), Mortgages (CeMAP 2) and Assessment of Mortgage Advice Knowledge (CeMAP 3). The biggest change will affect the first of those modules, which is set to be replaced by a new one called Financial Services Regulation and Ethics.
This will be a Level 4 module, which means it will be more challenging for students. It will cover two areas in considerable depth: financial services regulation and ethical decision-making. The new module is also intended to have a greater focus on real-world application than before. Students will have to apply what they have learned to case studies that mirror typical real-world situations for mortgage advisors.
Passing the course will depend on their ability to do that, as much as their skill in memorising information by rote. This is a major change, and it is designed to give them skills that can transfer over to related areas like protection, pension and investment advice.
The changes to CeMAP 1 are being accompanied by a streamlining of CeMAP 2. This will see the number of units cut from 4 to 2. CeMAP 3 will be altered to improve and update the case studies used. Students will have to use fresh study materials for those modules, due to the revised curriculum.
The Important Deadlines
The process of change has already started. The key deadlines are listed below:
September 29th, 2025
This was the last date when it was possible to register for the earlier CeMAP syllabus.
October 10th, 2025
This was the date when the examinations under the new syllabus began.
January 12th, 2026
This is the final date when it will be possible to sit examinations for the earlier syllabus. That includes re-sits
January 13th, 2026
On this date, every person who wishes to complete CeMAP training will be moved over to the new examinations.
July 16th, 2026
This is the deadline if you wish to complete the old version of CeMAP 1.
