Advice & Tips
Although the summer months are generally viewed as being the ideal time to relax and recharge your batteries, it can be the perfect time to improve your chances of gaining employment.
Whether you are unemployed and searching for a job, or you are a student relaxing before the start of the new term, you can use the summer as an opportunity to improve your chances of securing a job.
Many employers recruit students who are looking for temporary work during the holidays. However, if you are unemployed and looking for permanent employment, you could also consider temporary work. It is impressive on a CV and you may learn new skills while working in a temporary post.
Commit to learning a new skill so that you have something else to offer an employer. The skill may be something which you learn while volunteering, or may be during a part time job. You may want to consider enrolling at college so that you can focus on learning something new in September.
If you want to gain a professional qualification, it may be possible to take a course during the holiday period. For instance, if you would like to work in the mortgage industry, you will increase your chances of employment by taking the CeMAP training course and exam. You would then improve your chances of securing a position, either employed or self-employed, as a mortgage adviser.
Employers are more likely to recruit someone who has taken the initiative and has gained further qualifications or skills to improve their career prospects.
