Research shows better outcomes for buyers who use advisors

New research has found that buyers who get mortgage advice from professionals experience better outcomes.

This is the key finding of a survey by Yorkshire Building Society. The results of it were used as the basis for a report called ‘No Way Home? Restoring Britain’s Housing Ladder’. They show that 71% of the respondents who sought the help of a professional mortgage advisor found it made the buying process easier.

Another interesting finding from the survey is that many buyers have an unduly negative view of the accessibility of mortgages. Over half of those looking to buy for the first time told Yorkshire BS they expected it to be hard to get one.

Among those who want to move home, the percentage that feels that way is 40%. When it comes to people who are renting and who have no expectations of purchasing a home, it is 65%.

What the survey makes clear, though, is that much of this negativity is not rooted in reality. It is a belief held by those who have not spoken to an advisor to find out what their options are. After doing so, 67% stated they were in a better position to buy compared to what they initially thought.

Tom Simpson is the Yorkshire BS managing director of homes. He told Mortgage Introducer:

“Our findings show that mortgages are widely perceived as inaccessible, yet those who seek advice are far more likely to have a positive experience.”

This is why so many people want to take CeMAP training courses.
