Teachers BS sets new monthly completions record

Teachers Building Society is stating that it set a new monthly record for mortgage completions over the course of August.
The lender indicated that the number of residential mortgage completions during August was the highest for a single month since it began recording them. When it comes to what produced that result, Teachers Building Society cited a variety of different causes. Among them were adjustments that it has made to its product criteria, improvements in product affordability and increased demand among buyers for specialist mortgage lenders.
This latter point reflects the rising number of people who have complex financial situations that rule them out in the eyes of mainstream mortgage lenders. The specialist lending market in the UK has been growing for some time, as the amount of self-employed borrowers and ones with credit issues increases.
Another factor that Teachers Building Society cited for its bumper August completions record was manual underwriting. The lender stated that this made it easier for mortgage advisors to find suitable products for clients with complex circumstances.
David Leek works for Teachers Building Society as its chief commercial officer. He told Mortgage Soup that setting this record showed again how important building societies can be for borrowers.
He then continued by saying:
“Our specialist expertise and manual underwriting approach continue to resonate with brokers who value a more personal service and the ability to find solutions where others may not.”
It is clear that those with CeMAP mortgage advisor training have to look beyond the high street lenders to meet the needs of their clients now.
