Swansea BS unveils online application portal

Swansea Building Society has unveiled a new digital portal that mortgage advisors can use for submitting applications.
This portal is set to be available to the 830 advisors who are intermediary partners of Swansea BS. It is called simply Broker Portal and is a project that the lender has been working on for a year and a half. It has been helped in developing it by the fintech specialist SBS Software.
The launch of the portal represents a big step forward for the building society in terms of the mortgage application process. Up until now, advisors have had to make live contact with its mortgage team when they wanted to submit a completed application.
This new service will enable registered advisors to both submit applications and track ongoing ones online. Meanwhile administrators will be able to use it to upload key client files on behalf of an advisor. Therefore, Broker Portal stands to save mortgage advisors a great deal of time and effort.
For Swansea BS, it is the beginning of digitising its mortgage processes. However, the lender has made it clear that its underwriting methods will remain the same. This means a personal assessment of each application instead of automation.
Its chief executive is Alun Williams. Speaking to Mortgage Soup, he said:
“The portal gives us an opportunity to improve the digital side of the service without losing the personal approach that is such an important part of Swansea Building Society.”
This approach is one that could give mortgage advisors with CeMAP training the best of both worlds.
