Tips for choosing a new area to live

January 13, 2016 by Brendan

Deciding which area you want to live in is one of the main decisions you will make before you start looking at potential homes. If you want to move only slightly further away, you may not face any problems as you will be familiar with the area. However, if you are considering moving to a completely new area, you won’t know what it is like and whether you would be happy living there.

Initially, decide which areas you can afford to move to. It’s no use looking for homes in one particular region if you can’t afford any of the properties there. Once you know how much you want to spend, and whether you can afford that amount, look at some property websites so that you get an idea of what type of house is available in specific areas. You may want to consult a mortgage adviser before this step, so that you have an idea of what you can afford. A reputable adviser will have the CeMAP qualification to indicate they have sufficient knowledge to be able to assist you.

Decide the type of property you want and how many bedrooms it needs to have, so you can find out whether there are properties which fit the criteria in your chosen area at an affordable price.

Consider what amenities you would like in the area, whether you want to live in a built-up busy area with plenty of shops and other conveniences, or are you happy with a quieter area which doesn’t have schools and other amenities within easy reach.

Take your time when relocating to a new area, so that you know what you want and can select a region which fits the bill.
