This is a frequent question. After all, there seems to be hundreds of different CeMAP training courses out there, so how can someone choose the best course for them?
Here are our top tips for making sure you choose a good, high-quality CeMAP training course:
- Number of candidates: a good training course will limit the number of students on a course to a maximum of 10 or 12 delegates per course. This is to ensure that the trainer can give enough individual attention and ensure that nobody is left out. It also helps the delegates as it is less intimidating and everyone can learn from each other
- Trainer’s experience: the trainers on every course should be fully CeMAP-qualifed themselves and have taken all the courses include CeMAP 1, 2 and 3 exams. They should also have experience of teaching – it isn’t enough to know the matieral, they have to know how to communicate that material to people from different backgrounds. Some students will have experience of the financial industry, others will have none and the challenge is to get everyone to the same level by the end of a five day course
- Pass rate: a quality CeMAP training courses will not only have a good pass rate, they should have an excellent pass rate – regardless of a delegate’s background
- Reputation: the training provider company should be respected in the industry. It can be difficult to judge this sometimes but a good indicator is whether they have testimonials from employers who have taken on their students and even better, do companies themselves send their employees on training courses with that company?
- Up-to-date material: everybody should be aware that the ifs School of Finance, who run the CeMAP exams, update the CeMAP syllabus annually and sometimes twice a year, so the course must also be updated
- Mock exams & questions: this is often reflected in the pass rate but worth mentioning separately as well. In order to get students to the right level in five days and to help them pass the exam, they need to have mini tests throughout the course, not just a mock mid-week and another at the end of the week
